Better Environment

Environmental management is core to SOCAM’s business strategy and practices. Shui On has for many years been a first adopter of new methodologies that bring about a measurable improvement in conservation of energy and natural resources, waste management and emissions reduction. As a major construction company in Hong Kong, we followed the ISO50001:2018 standard and continued to seek ways to further protect natural resources and minimise the environmental impact of all our operations, across all disciplines.

Decarbonisation is one of our main goals for the next decade and we have committed to a carbon and waste reduction target of 25% by 2024. This is the first important step towards alleviating the climate-related environmental impacts of our operations.

  • Reduce Carbon Emissions

We put in place some effective directives to minimise carbon footprints, and use devices like timer controls, adoption of LED lighting, and solar power water heater systems. We closely monitor our GHG emission since 2013 to enhance our overall environmental performance.

    • Adopting enertainer, an advanced, compact and connected battery system to enhance the operational efficiency
    • Replacement of T8 fluorescent tubes with LED lighting to reduce electricity consumption
    • Implementation of solar energy and the conversion of mains electricity to reduce consumption of B5 biodiesel
  • Implement Circular Construction to Reduce Waste and Conserve Resources

Continuously develops and introduces innovative techniques and measures in water quality control, air pollution control, environmental monitoring, conserving resources and reducing waste.

    • Recycling grey water on-site for vehicle cleaning, reuse of wheel washing water and installing sensor taps in toilets, thus reducing the consumption of fresh water.
    • Undergoing digitalization of converting documents and other papers into digital form to realize paperless office.
  • Sustainable Supply Chain

Working towards a low-emission operation by reinforcing our green procurement requirements and attaching a high priority to products with high durability and recyclability.

    • Implementing the green procurement guidelines and conducting annual review to ensure suppliers’ products and services meet the requisite standards
    • Purchasing products that have less packaging and a higher percentage of recycled materials, and appliances with Grade 1 energy efficiency labels.
    • Continuing on green procurement of types of goods and services to support daily operations, such as FSC and PEFC certified Fibrillar wood, Grade 1 water-consuming devices under the Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme by the Water Supplies Department, etc
  • Promote Green Lifestyle

Promote a sustainable lifestyle among our employees and the public through creative office campaigns and green community events, spreading green messages to a wider public.

  •
    Green Operation

Our construction division continuously develops and introduces innovative techniques and measures in water quality control, air pollution control, environmental monitoring and other environmental areas in our construction sites.

  •
    Green Community Programmes

We join hands with environmental organisations to enhance the sense of social responsibility and to spread green messages.

  •
    Green Lifestyle

Eco tours, organic farming, coastal cleanup and tree planting activities are introduced to promote the appreciation and protection of nature.

  •
    Green Office Campaigns

A series of competitions are used to encourage support in saving paper and energy in our daily office operations. D.I.Y. workshops are also held to encourage reuse of waste materials, such as natural mosquito coil workshop and red envelope reuse workshop.
