Aside from paying close regard to serving our customers and securing attractive returns to our shareholders, we consider it our basic duty to reciprocate to the community, to have respect for the environment and to provide for the health, safety and development of our employees.

SOCAM was again named “Caring Company” for 2008/09 by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service in recognition of our contribution to building a caring community. In 2008, we formalised our Corporate Social Responsibility Policy Statement detailing our commitment in three focus areas: our people, the environment and the community, collectively termed as “Shui On – We Care”.

Corporate Social Responsibility Policy Statement

As a corporation based in Hong Kong with major business interests in the Chinese Mainland, we firmly believe our long term success is built on a strong sense of responsibility for our stakeholders and the larger community of which we are an integral part.

On top of our fundamental objective of being regarded by our shareholders, our customers and our business partners as a high-performance company, we consider it our basic duty to contribute to the wellbeing and growth of our employees, the preservation and enhancement of the environment and the welfare and progress of the community in which we operate. We have therefore formulated this Statement of our Corporate Social Responsibility Policy to proclaim our commitment to caring for our people, the environment and the community, collectively termed “Shui On – We Care”.

Caring for our People
We are committed to enhancing the level of engagement, health and safety, overall wellness and personal growth of our employees and making Shui On a better place to work.

Caring for the Environment  
We are committed to devoting systematic efforts towards the conservation of energy and natural resources as well as reduction of waste and emissions at both business operation and individual levels.

Caring for the Community
We are committed to building a “We Care” culture throughout Shui On and contributing resources to charitable causes and educational initiatives in the community.

This Policy is fully supported by the Board of Directors, with the required resources for implementation duly allocated. The CSR Steering Committee, which is chaired by a senior executive answerable to the Chief Executive Officer, will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the effective implementation of this Policy throughout the Group, and in particular for promoting the personal involvement of our employees in related activities. The management of each business operation in the Group will be responsible for identifying and adopting systems, certifications and practices appropriate for the business and establishing yardsticks for measuring achievements in accordance with the direction of this Policy. Our employees will be encouraged to participate and contribute their time and resources to CSR activities through provision of leave and sponsorship by the Company where appropriate.

We aim to cultivate a strong “Shui On – We Care” brand that embodies not only the commitment of the corporate, but also the vitality of our people in fulfilling social responsibility.
